Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino celebrates 25 years of commitment to service

Cebu City, Philippines – Waterfront Hotels & Casinos’ flagship property in Cebu is proud to announce its 25th-year anniversary on July 25, 2023. Over the past quarter-century, the hotel has been home to local and international tourists traveling to Cebu City for business or leisure.

From Cebu’s humble beginnings, it’s safe to say that Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino was there in the midst of the city’s development into one of the Philippines’ most progressive areas. Since the beginning, the propery and its peers have always prioritized the citizen’s convenience by strategically placing themselves at the center of it all. Right across the hotel, what used to be Cebu’s very first airport is now a well-known destination for business development and commercial establishments, commonly referred to as the I.T. Park. Although the area has drastically changed over the years, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino managed to adapt and develop just as the Queen City of the South developed.

Waterfront Cebu does not only provide a place to stay but is an avenue that evokes feelings and creates significant memories to be cherished for a lifetime. One memory that’s worth remembering was when Regine & Martin Nieverra had their concert at the Pacific Grand Ballroom in 2003. Not to mention, 2005 SEA Games held their Dancesport event at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino followed by the prestigious Mr. and Miss Cebu in 2008.

Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino is not only an essential part of the hospitality industry. The property continues to play its role as a vital force when it comes to giving back and uplifting the community. The premier hotel has contributed significant developments to the city’s growth, economy, and even tourism, but the property did not stop there. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities were also organized for Cebu’s social welfare as well as for the preservation of the environment with the aid of local NGOs and barangays.

Through the years here are some sustainable and transformative activities that the peers at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino have participated in:

  • 2013: Lapu-Lapu Tourism Council Coastal Clean-Up
  • 2019: Refurbishment Initiatives at Barangay Kang-atis Elementary School
  • 2020: Waterfront Cares for Brgy. Suba (Part II)

  • 2023: Tree Planting at Barangay Pung-ol
  • 2023: Tree Planting at the Nug-as Forest Reserve

As Waterfront continues to blossom in the hospitality industry, its service with a warm smile is a Filipino value that guests would always come back. In the effort to embody and maintain excellent guest satisfaction, the property’s department heads boast high training to its peers that remain visible in every guest interaction.

Keeping its grounds strong, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino would like to acknowledge the 25 years of support from the local government of the city as well as from the province in Cebu. Celebrating 25 years of Commitment to Service will only continue and progress for the years to come as the property and its management is looking forward to 25 years and beyond of excellent service wearing the “Waterfront” smile.

Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino would also like to thank their sponsors for this year’s 25th Anniversary Celebration: Global Star Motors Corp., Cebu New Life Press, Premium Sole, Metro Retail Stores Group Inc., DC Fresh Flower Shop & Supply, Kettle & Shaker, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Waterfront Mactan Launches Viva Lokal!

This Pride Month, we also take pride in the celebration of local flavors. Filipino food continues to surprise people with its diversity, distinct taste, and creativity. It often draws inspiration from different cultural influences which makes its flavors and texture stand out.

Viva Lokal is Waterfront Mactan’s campaign that honors Filipino food culture and showcases a delightful array of flavors inspired by the rich culinary culture of our country. Being the only airport hotel in Cebu, Waterfront Mactan elevates its pasalubong or food souvenir with its Salu-Salo Box. The concept of the Salu-Salo Box is meant for travelers and tourists to take home a piece of Cebu to be shared with their loved ones.

The Philippines may be an archipelago but we are united when it comes to food and sharing it with our family and friends. Newly-minted Executive Chef June Fernandez handpicked local flavors that are indigenous to an identified place and called them Sari-Sari Donuts.

RAC-RAC. A playful reverse of the Carcar City, Chef June highlights the sweets and delicacies they are known for–bukhayo, bocarillo, and ampao. Baked brioche donut filled with bukhayo and bocarillo paste, dipped in white chocolate and tablea ganache, then finished off with ampao crumbles and bocarillo petals for texture.

JAGNA. Paying homage to Cebu’s neighboring island of Bohol, this donut is generously filled with luscious calamay, dipped in milk chocolate, and crowned with peanut kisses and asin tibuok.

NIÑO CUE. Chef June remembers his younger days when little boys or niños are being asked to buy banana cues by their elders. He elevated this merienda staple with muscovado sugar and salted caramel glaze, rich banana cream, topped with banana chips.

TABLEYAM. Nothing beats the classic harmony of flavors of ube halaya pastry cream and macapuno bits. This donut is dipped in ube glaze and wreathed with meringue shards, powdered sugar, ube powder, and cacao nibs.

SAGIMIS. A native Tagalog word in Batangas for turon. This donut is stuffed with langka mousse and banana cream essence. Decorated with banana tart tatin, langka compote, and barquillos flakes on top.

MANGO SANS RIVAL. Inspired by the sans rival cake, this donut is glazed with cinnamon, then coated with chantilly mango vanilla cream and strips of dried mangoes on one side, and crushed rosquillos and cashew nuts on the other side.

BARAKO. Coffee lovers will rejoice as this donut uses kape mais for its coffee flavor. The choux pastry dough is glazed with coffee mocha, dulce de leche, and sprinkled with white chocolate and cookies and cream polvoron powder.

The Sari-Sari Donuts series will release its next batch of flavors in the upcoming months. One can travel around the country without the need for a plane or bus ticket. All you need to do is take home a Salu-Salo Box with your donut of choice.

Waterfront Mactan Celebrates Filipino Food Month

The Philippine archipelago boasts of flavors that are influenced by different foreign cuisines that are local, regional, and seasonal. Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement referred to Filipino food as one of the world’s earliest fusion cuisines whose ancestral cooking is influenced mostly by early foreign visitors such as the Chinese, Portuguese, Spaniards, and Mexicans who were active in trading spices and Muslims from the neighboring countries.

April is Filipino Food Month which is also known as Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino. This year’s theme is Pagkaing Sariling Atin, Mahalin at Pagyamanin. Waterfront Airport Hotel & Casino Mactan took its cue to promote a series of food offers for this month.

Merienda Cena

Filipinos are snackers and merienda is one of the fourth or fifth meals of the day. Thanks to the long intertwined history with Spain, merienda remains one of the local food traditions in Filipino culture. There is more to merienda than a light meal. It is a ritual that greeted family members coming home from work or school, a welcome respite for the household staff as an indulgence after a day’s work, or an afternoon refreshment offered to neighbors and visiting friends.

Merienda is a quasi-meal that is filling yet not crossing over to be called a full meal. Waterfront Mactan offers weekday Merienda Cena from 2 PM to 5 PM.

Bridging the best of both worlds–comforting and familiar with modern renditions–Waterfront Mactan’s newly minted Executive Chef June Fernandez went back to basics and offers what is filling to the stomach while reminding you of your childhood memories at the same time. Breads, kakanins, steaming hot sweet potatoes, and skewered fruits are available in the merienda cycle. The mainstay frying station covers squid ball, tempura, fish ball, fried isaw, kwek kwek, lumpia, okoy, to name a few. Homemade dipping sauces are available on the side plus a special mystery spicy homemade hot sauce would make an occasional appearance to give guests an exclusive taste. Refreshments range from cool sago’t gulaman and ice candies to hot choices of sikwate (native chocolate) or roasted corn coffee.

Mamen at Kadaugan Food Festival

Sole lady chef, Femia Casabuena, is known for her signature hand-pulled noodles. Her culinary talents were showcased at Cafe Uno’s ramen-all-you-can offer. It was popular amongst ramen aficionados when it was launched last March. Serving tonkotsu, miso, and tantanmen sans MSG every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6 PM to 9 PM.

Waterfront Mactan takes the ramen to the streets with a twist! Mamen is a portmanteau of mami noodles and ramen toppings. To make it very Pinoy, classic favorites are added such as ‘Boy Mamen (adobo), Baka Mamen (beef pares), Chicks Mamen (chicken katsu), and Lomen (lomi). Joining the mamen line up are rice bowls with toppings of local Cebuano favorites like humba de ronda, balbacua, and crispy lechon dinuguan.

These savory bowls are available only during the Lapu-Lapu City’s Kadaugan Sa Food Festival happening from April 18 to 23, 2023 at the Liberty Shrine, from 4 PM to 10 PM.

Wasay-Wasay

In celebration of Earth Day, Waterfront Mactan puts the spotlight on minimizing foodprint. A foodprint measures the environmental impacts associated with how the food is grown, produced, transported, and stored. Wasay-wasay (black lip oyster), which literally translates as “axe-axe”, is a Bantayan Island seafood delicacy.

Waterfront Mactan’s Executive Chef June Fernandez, a Bantayan Island native, reintroduced this as its food highlight for its outdoor barbecue dining promotion, Turo-Turo, Filipino Barbecue Feast. Chef June is very hands-on in acquiring the seafood. He made sure that shells were fresh and locally sourced from the fishermen on Bantayan Island. As a nod to the Datu Lapu-Lapu Day, the wasay-wasay was prepared using pre-colonial cooking methods–sugba, tuwa, and kinilaw.

Turo-Turo literally means “point-point”. This is how you deal by choosing what item you want the chef to cook for you. Turo-Turo features a wide variety of Filipino barbecue favorites varying from land to sea. Playing with different palates from the comfort and familiar mainstay staples to Mindanao-style marinated satays.

Wasay-wasay is available at the Turo-Turo, every Thursday to Saturday, from 6 PM to 10 PM.
